FP Markets offers a swap-free version of both its Standard and Raw accounts, built for Muslim traders who can't pay or receive interest on positions held overnight.

It's a genuinely transparent setup, FP Markets publishes its fee table openly, but it's worth understanding exactly how the grace period and fees work before assuming full coverage across every instrument.

Want to know more about FP Markets before committing your money? TopAsiaFX put together a solid FP Markets review that covers the regulation and fees in more depth.

What Actually Changes?

Once converted, your account doesn't accrue swap or rollover interest on overnight positions, in line with Sharia principles. Everything else stays the same, spreads, leverage, execution, and platform access carry over exactly as they were on your standard account. Instead of a swap, an administration fee applies to certain instruments once you hold a position past the grace period, deducted directly from your account balance.

The 5-Night Grace Period Only Covers Select Pairs

This is the detail worth paying close attention to: FP Markets' grace period, five nights without any admin charge, only applies to select currency pairs, not the full instrument range.

Independent testing has found charges applying to majors like EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and NZD/USD after five nights, but plenty of other symbols carry no grace period at all. If a pair isn't on FP Markets' published swap-free list, normal swap charges apply from day one, exactly as they would on a standard account.

How the Fees Actually Work?

Admin fees vary significantly by instrument, and FP Markets publishes the exact figures on its website rather than keeping them vague. Reported examples include fees in the range of $6 to $75 per lot per night for EUR/USD and considerably more for gold, depending on when the data was recorded, since FP Markets updates these figures periodically.

One detail worth knowing: on nights when triple swap normally applies, Wednesday for forex and metals, Friday for indices, energies, and crypto, FP Markets doesn't triple the admin fee to match. It absorbs that additional cost instead, which is a small but genuine advantage over a standard account's swap structure on those nights.

What's Not Covered?

Shares aren't available for swap-free trading through FP Markets, so if direct share exposure is part of your strategy, that portion of your trading falls outside Islamic account status.

It's also worth remembering that Islamic account status doesn't apply automatically to instruments outside the published list, so closing positions before the daily rollover on non-covered symbols is the only way to avoid a swap charge on those specific trades.

How to Apply?

You'll need to register and open a live MT4 or MT5 account first. Once that's done, email FP Markets' onboarding team requesting the conversion to Islamic status, and wait for confirmation. Approval typically takes 1 to 2 business days.

FP Markets reserves the right to request additional documentation, and if your religion isn't stated on your official ID, you may be asked for proof of faith, commonly a letter from a mosque confirming your religious affiliation.

A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Apply

  • Check FP Markets' current published fee table for your specific instruments before assuming the five-night grace period applies universally. Since coverage is limited to select pairs and fees are updated periodically, relying on outdated figures from a review article, including this one, can give you the wrong impression of actual holding costs.
  • Don't assume swap-free automatically means fully compliant with your personal understanding of Sharia principles. Removing interest is one requirement, but genuine compliance also involves avoiding excessive speculation and uncertainty, so it's worth consulting a religious authority if you want full confidence in your specific trading activity.
  • If your strategy involves holding positions for many days, model the admin fee cost over a realistic holding period before committing. A ten-night position, for example, might cost less in admin fees than the equivalent in standard swaps, but only if you've checked the actual published rate for that instrument.
  • Keep proof of faith documentation ready if your ID doesn't state your religion, since this can otherwise delay your approval past the typical 1 to 2 business day window.
  • Remember that shares and other instruments outside FP Markets' swap-free list still carry standard swap charges, so plan your position management around those symbols differently than you would your covered forex trades.
